History:
In 1998 the Bettiah region was bifurcated from Muzaffarpur Diocese as a new diocese under the leadership of Most Rev. Victor Henry Thakur. After the division, Bishop was looking for the land for Bishop’s House in the Bettiah town which is the head quarter of West Champaran District. In the year 2000, 2.5 acres of land at Mehandiyabari which is at the outskirts of Bettiah town was purchased by the Diocese. Since it was little away from the town, the land purchased to construct Bishop House at Mehandiyabari was unused. Now, Bettiah town has been extended up to Mehandiyabari, and the area is developing and many Catholics are settling there.
Mehandiyabari was erected as a Mass center on 16 June 2019 by Rt. Rev. Peter Sebastian Goveas to extend our mission activities and to cater to the spiritual needs of the people who are staying in the locality. Fr. Kishore Reddy is the in-charge of the mission and now Handmaids of Mary sisters (HM) will collaborate with the Diocese in Socio-pastoral ministry particularly education apostolate.
